True Black Brandywine Heirloom Tomato Seed
True Black Brandywine tomato is a super local for us. It was breed by the brilliant Dr. Martin (A local dentist 1888 -1959He was active in the 1920's) He is from Westtown PA. and his Dr. Martin Limas with their large bean pods are super famous here in the valley. William Woys Weaver, who I worked for years ago has said that it is likely a cross between between Brandywine and the original brown Beefsteak tomato otherwise known as Fejee Improved. Dr. Weaver’s Grandfather was friends with Dr. Martin and they traded seeds and plants. Craig LeHoullier has other words about it. Ok I know my place in this world, and it is not in the middle of the Titanomachy of the tomato gods, so I will just put this story here and let it go, I love growing and eating tomatoes not fighting about the stories that come with them. This tomato is more of a Brandywine than a typical black tomato. I just get pure tomato flavor from it, that is amazing, but without the complexities of the darker tomatoes. We use this in tons of BLT’s for our other business The Toad Sandwich Collective. Very productive for a plant that puts out 15oz fruits on average. about 10 seeds Indeterminate plants 90 days till fruit.
